At the top of Wednesday night’s episode of “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert joked about the ongoing drama with Dr. Ronny Jackson, the White House physician and Trump’s nominee to head up the VA.
Noting that Jackson was recently described in a summary of his workplace behavior as “toxic,” “abusive,” and “volatile,” Colbert joked “but on the plus side, he handed out the pills baby!”

Jackson, who previously served in the same capacity for Barack Obama and George W. Bush, is in the news again after his nomination to head the VA ran into some serious speed bumps this week. His confirmation hearings were postponed after lingering questions about his lack of management experience, apparent over-prescription of medications, poor oversight of the White House medical team and other murky accusations of professional misconduct.
Jackson has been something of a figure of ridicule since January and his comments after Trump’s annual physical. For instance, Jackson told reporters at a press briefing that Trump was 6’3″ and weighed 239 pounds, he praised Trump’s habit of sleeping between four and five hours per night, and said Trump is 100 percent healthy following a physical exam.
After these comments, director James Gunn joked “I will give 100 thousand dollars to Trump’s favorite charity if he will step on an accurate scale.”
