Coachella 2010: ‘Twilight,’ Toons, Jack White

Also on the bill: Jay-Z, Thom Yorke, MGMT and, maybe, Sly and the Family Stone

Last year it was Paul McCartney. This year it’s vampires, cartoon characters and electric Coke-bottle players taking the lead at Coachella.

coachellaOn the bill for this year’s fest, which runs April 16-18 at the Empire Polo Fields near Indio, California: both Vampire Weekend and, straight from the “Twilight Saga: New Moon” soundtrack, author Stephenie Meyer’s favorite band, Muse; cartoon collaboration Gorillaz; and the Dead Weather, the latest band from Jack White, who concocted the oddest electric guitar of the year for the documentary “It Might Get Loud.”

Continuing the movie theme, Charlotte Gainsbourg, who starred in Lars von Trier’s recent “AntiChrist” and has a new collaboration with Beck coming out this month.
Other top names: Jay-Z, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, MGMT, Spoon, Julian Casablancas and, in a rare but always unpredictable appearance, Sly Stone and a new version of the Family Stone.
Sly joins other blasts from the past: Grace Jones, Devo, Gary Numan and Echo and the Bunnymen.)
"Once again, Coachella strikes an amazing balance of exciting emerging artists,” Jason Bentley, KCRW Music Director and host of "Morning Becomes Eclectic," told TheWrap, “paired with thoughtful headliners and classic reunions."
Tickets go on sale on Jan. 22, 2010.
