CNN’s Jake Tapper is on vacation this week, but noticed on Monday that his show ran an on-screen headline that read, “Alt-Right Founder Questions if Jews Are People” which made the Jewish anchor “furious.”
“I’m furious about that chyron and my staff has heard from me. Unacceptable,” Tapper tweeted.
Chief security correspondent Jim Sciutto anchored “The Lead” in tapper’s absence when he reported a quote by National Policy Institute president Richard Spencer that said, “One wonders if these people are people at all, or instead soulless golem.”
@Deadspin I'm off today but that chyron is unacceptable and I immediately called my staff to convey that.

A CNN spokeswoman issued the following statement: “It was poor judgement and we very much regret it and apologize.”
“Believe me I take this very seriously as I’m sure you understand,” Tapper tweeted afterwards.
Sciutto sent a tweet agreeing with Tapper’s comments.
I agree with @jaketapper fully however that the banner – which we don't write from the chair – was out of line https://t.co/M4aV4W330S
