CMT has signed a multi-year production deal with producer John Hamlin and his newly-formed company Switched On Entertainment, the music network announced Tuesday.
Hamlin served as CMT’s senior vice president of music events and talent the past eight years. Effective immediately, he will continue working with CMT as executive producer and showrunner of the network’s music tentpoles and franchises, including “CMT Music Awards,” “Artists of the Year” and “Crossroads.”
He is also charged with developing new series and signature events for the network as part of a first-look deal. Hamlin will retain an office and base of operations at CMT.
At CMT, Hamlin served as executive producer for the aforementioned shows, and created the franchise “CMT Artists of the Year,” as well as the “CMT Ultimate Kickoff Party” concert in partnership with the College Football Playoff. He also oversaw the music news program “CMT Hot 20 Countdown” and its predecessor “CMT Insider.”
An Emmy Award-winning producer, Hamlin has over three decades of television experience, including 20 years as a producer for CBS News’ “60 Minutes.”
His background also includes posts with CBS Sports, NBC Sports and ESPN. Hamlin has received five national Emmy nominations and two wins, and he is a recipient of the Edward R. Murrow awards for news writing from the Radio-Television News Directors Association.
