“Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” fell just where everyone thought it would — No. 1, with $35 million domestically — but it was the race for second place where the intrigue was to be found at the box office this weekend.
The silver medal went to “Prisoners,” the Jake Gyllenhaal/Hugh Jackman thriller, which took $11.2 million in its second weekend of wide release.
