Cloo-Less? NBC Universal Re-brands Sleuth

The media giant changes another of its cable networks’ names

NBC Universal will change the name of its Sleuth channel to Cloo TV this spring, TV Guide has confirmed after a USA Network vice president tweeted the news.

This intriguing bit of branding comes, of course, from the company that slapped its popular Sci-Fi Channel with the hard to fathom SyFy tag so that it could trademark the channel's name and signify its expansion to genres other than science-fiction. Now the monkeying-around is happening again.

This change doesn't come with nearly as much risk, of course, as Sleuth-cum-Cloo is mainly a dumping ground for second-hand episodes of popular USA Network programs (e.g., "Burn Notice," "Psych" and "Monk") as well as select classic reruns (e.g., Magnum: P.I.," "MacGyver"). On Saturday, the network will air an all-day "Walker, Texas Ranger" marathon, for example. The stakes could not be lower.

Still, it does make you wonder what they're smoking at NBCU HQ, and what names they'll think up next for its other properties.

Brrrrrrrravo, anyone?
