As is tradition, CBS aired the beloved Christmas special “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” on Tuesday night and many Twitter users found its classic optimism difficult to relate to in 2017.
Some viewers rediscovering the 1964 Rankin/Bass stop-motion movie took to Twitter to celebrate their nostalgia, sending the hashtag #Rudolph trending during the special’s east coast broadcast.

Others weren’t quite as joyful, however.
“I see #Rudolph trending and I don’t want to click on it for fear that he’s either dead, is being accused of groping women, or is coming out as a white supremacist,” wrote one user.
“Watching ‘Rudolph’ on CBS. They should have called it ‘everyone’s an a–hole, including santa,’ ” wrote another.
One sports fan observed, “Comet shouldn’t be in coaching if he’s going to turn his back on the most talented reindeer. This is a results business.”
While another clearly follows the L.A. Lakers: “Donner is the LaVar Ball of reindeer dads.”

So how many years did you guys watch #Rudolph before realizing the reason Yukon Cornelius never found anything was because his sled went in circles due to having grown dogs on one side and puppies on the other? pic.twitter.com/DCZEu4mSbN

Speaking of #Rudolph and people being exploited. It's also despicable what the #Giants are doing to Eli Manning. #JusticeforEli

Someone needed to remove #Rudolph from his abusive father and don't get me started on prejudiced Santa

Coach Comet is brutal on the North Pole media that covers the Reindeer Games, but the reporters still prefer him to Bill Belichick. #Rudolph pic.twitter.com/JSJWPM3HAX

The most confusing night on CBS every year. #Rudolph, to be later followed by the @VictoriasSecret Fashion Show. Makes perfect sense.
See you at 11p.
