Claire Foy has traded her royal duds for a decidedly more goth look in the explosive new trailer for “The Girl in the Spider’s Web.”
“The Crown” star’s take on tattooed goth hacker Lisbeth Salander is decidedly edgier than her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II — complete with some high-voltage action and what looks like a romantic same-sex kiss late in the clip.
The new trailer also offers more details about the plot, including a deadly sibling rivalry between Lisbeth and her long-estranged sister Camilla (Sylvia Hoeks). Director Fede Alvarez’s film also stars Lakeith Stanfield, Stephen Merchant, Claes Bang, Christopher Convery, Synnøve Macody Lund and Vicky Krieps.
“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” is the latest film to be adapted from the book series written by Stieg Larsson and is the first to hit the big screen since David Fincher’s 2011 version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” which starred Rooney Mara as Salander and Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist.
Noomi Rapace also previously played Salander in the Swedish adaptation of Larsson’s Millennium series.
“Spider’s Web” is based on the novel of the same name by David Lagercrantz, who continued Lisbeth’s adventures after the 2004 death of Larsson.
The screenplay adaptation was written by Steven Knight and Fede Alvarez & Jay Basu.
“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” will be released in theaters on Nov. 9 via Sony/MGM.
