"Transporter" is moving to the small screen.
Pay-cable outlet Cinemax is joining forces with Luc Besson, producer of the "Transporter" movie series, on a television version of the action-thriller franchise, the channel confirmed to TheWrap. Cinemax has okayed 12 episodes, with Besson executive-producing.
Like the big-screen version, which stars Jason Statham, the TV project will follow the adventures of Frank Martin, a former Special Forces officer and current driver who will transport anything, no questions asked.
The series pick-up appears to be part of a larger plan on Cinemax's part to bulk up its original programming. In February, HBO's sister station entered a partnership with Sky to produce a 10-part second series of "Strike Back," the popular British television action series starring Richard Armitage.
The "Transporter" series will begin production this summer. No word on who will play the small-screen version of Martin.
