Cinemark to Launch National In-Theater Video Game League

Super League Gaming Summer Tour will debut in LA on June 15 in advance of six-week league play beginning in September

Movie theater chain Cinemark is launching a gaming league within select locations across the U.S. this month, the company announced on Friday.

The Super League Gaming Summer Tour will debut in Los Angeles on June 15 and will end in Fort Worth, Texas, on Aug. 26.

“Our high-quality theaters function as complete entertainment destinations,” Cinemark CEO Tim Warner said. “We’re interested in providing all types of content and options for our guests and gaming is certainly a big draw.”

The tour is being used to familiarize gamers with the concept of Super League Gaming in advance of official league play beginning Sept. 14. Starting with Minecraft, league play will pit teams of gamers against each other for six weeks in participating theaters for league championship titles. The number of host locations will eventually extend to over 25 major American cities.

The summer tour will be open to gamers age 7-17. See below for dates and theaters announced so far.
