Complaints about the sound mix on Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” clearly didn’t have much influence on the members of the Cinema Audio Society, who on Tuesday made the film one of the five nominees for the best feature-film sound mix of 2014.
“Interstellar” joined “American Sniper,” “Birdman,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Unbroken” in receiving nominations for the 2014 CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing, which will be presented on Feb. 14 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.

Missing from the roster of nominees were the action movies “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” “Godzilla” and “Fury,” as well as the music-oriented films “Into the Woods,” “Get on Up” and “Whiplash.”
In the last five years, about two-thirds of CAS nominees have gone on to receive Oscar nominations for sound mixing, with the winners agreeing four out of five times.
“Big Hero 6,” “The Boxtrolls,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” “The Lego Movie” and “Penguins of Madagascar” were nominated in the animated-film category.
The CAS also announced nominees in four television categories. One-hour series nominees were “Boardwalk Empire,” “Game of Thrones,” “Homeland,” “True Detective” and “The Walking Dead,” while half-hour series nominations went to “Family Guy,” “Modern Family,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Veep.”
“American Horror Story,” “Fargo,” “Houdini,” “The Normal Heart” and “Sherlock: His Last Vow” were nominated in the TV movie or miniseries category.
Non-fiction television nominees included two music specials, “Foo Fighters Sonic Highway” and “2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,” along with episodes of “Deadliest Catch,” “Cosmos” and “The Roosevelts: An Intimate History.”
The other group that gives awards for sound, the Motion Picture Sound Editors, will announce its nominees on Wednesday.
