It’s unclear who the former “Law and Order: SVU” star would play in the Warner/Legendary “Superman” movie

Christopher Meloni, who recently announced his departure from his longtime role as "Law and Order: SVU's" Det. Elliot Stabler, is in negotiations to join "Man of Steel," the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures-produced "Superman" movie, TheWrap has confirmed.

It's unclear who the actor, who left NBC's crime drama after a dozen seasons, will play in the movie.

Already signed to the cast: Diane Lane and Kevin Costner play parents Martha and Jonathan Kent, and Julia Ormond and Russell Crowe play Superman's parents on Krypton. Amy Adams plays Lois Lane and Henry Cavill plays Superman himself.

Zack Snyder is directing.

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are producing. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan.
