The first trailer for Terrence Malick‘s upcoming “Knight of Cups” starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman, was released Monday by FilmNation Entertainment.
The movie, which has been shrouded in secrecy, follows the story of Bale’s movie star character Rick as he navigates the drug-and sex-filled world of Hollywood.
Broad Green Pictures picked up U.S. rights to the film, and is planning a release on March 4, 2016.
Rick appears to be living the high life: studio executives want to make him rich; he has his pick of any young starlet he desires; and any chemical indulgence he could want is at his fingertips. Yet beneath all of the glitz and glamor, he struggles with a loss of identity.
Nobody else seems to mind, however, as one character notes, “No one cares about reality anymore.” This disconnection has severely affected Rick’s personal relationships, leading him to question if this life of temptations is all he hoped it would be.
The all-star cast also includes Antonio Banderas and Brian Dennehy. The film does not currently have a U.S. release date, but will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2015.
