Christian Bale and Matt Damon are out to burn rubber in the first full trailer for 20th Century Fox’s upcoming film, “Ford v Ferrari.”
Based on the true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and the fearless British-born driver Kevin Miles (Bale), the film follows the two as they build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966. On the road to completion, Shelby and Miles battled corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons.
In the trailer, which was released late Sunday, Shelby is approached by Ford executive Lee Iacocca, who asks what it would take if Henry Ford had wanted to build the greatest race car the world has ever seen… one that could beat Ferrari. Shelby says it’s not about money and it’s not about speed. He says it would take a pure racer behind the wheel of the car — and that’s Ken Miles, a champion racer who is neither trusted nor liked.
“We’re lighter, we’re faster, and if that don’t work, we’re nastier,” Shelby says of his creation.
“Ford v Ferrari” also stars Jon Bernthal, Caitriona Balfe, Tracy Letts, Josh Lucas, Noah Rupe, Remo Girone and Ray McKinnon. The film opens in theaters Nov. 15.
