Chelsea Handler has been tapped to host the 2023 Critics Choice Awards. The multi-hyphenate comedian will take the stage live in January.
The Critics Choice Association announced the news on Thursday, praising Handler’s “humor and candor,” which “have established her as one of the most celebrated voices in entertainment and pop culture.” Last year, Handler herself won “The Comedy Act of 2021” at the People’s Choice Awards for her “Vaccinated and Horny” stand-up tour.
“We are thrilled to have Chelsea Handler joining us at the 28th annual Critics Choice Awards,” Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said in a statement. “We all know and love her work as a standup comedian, a best-selling author, a podcast host, and actress – and now as host of the Critics Choice Awards! I know this will be the best year yet and can’t wait for everyone to see what we have in store.”
This year’s Critics Choice Awards will be held at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Jan. 15 and air live on The CW from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. ET (delayed PT). The 28th annual ceremony will be executive-produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment.
The Critics Choice Awards honor the best in television and movies, and historically have been one of the most accurate predictors of Oscar nominations each year.
This year, the Critics Choice Association will also hold the 5th annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television on Dec. 5 at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel, the 2nd annual Celebration of Latino Cinema & Television on Nov. 13 at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel and the inaugural Celebration of Asian Pacific Cinema & Television on Nov. 4 at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel.
