Charlie Sheen appears to be living up to his "winning" reputation with his new comedy "Anger Management."
Sheen's television adaptation of the Jack Nicholson/Adam Sandler film set cable ratings records with its premiere on FX Thursday night, drawing 2.65 million viewers in the advertiser-cherished 18-49 demographic and 5.47 million total viewers.
That's an outright record for scripted-comedy premieres on cable in the key demo, and a record for the same in total viewers, excluding children's programming.
The "Anger Management" premiere also drew the highest total viewership in FX history for series premieres.
A second episode of "Anger Management" at 9:30 saw the total viewership grow to 5.74 million, with 2.89 million viewers in the key demo.
Also premiering last night, "Brand X," Russell Brand's new series, drew 1.1 million total viewers with its 11 p.m. debut, with 687,000 falling within the key demo. Those numbers represent a 32 percent increase over FX's time-period average in total viewers, and a 38 percent increase in the key demo for that time period.
