Channing Tatum’s ‘Magic Mike’ Musical Moves Forward With ‘Spider-Man’ Scribe

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will write the book for the show, which is being produced by Steven Soderbergh

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who helped save "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," has been tapped to write the book for "Magic Mike: The Musical," TheWrap has learned.

Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey will write the songs for the musical, which is based on Steven Soderbergh's 2012 stripper drama that starred Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer.

Tatum, who worked as an actual stripper when he was younger, is producing with Reid Carolin and Soderbergh, as well as Gregory Jacobs and Nick Wechsler. WME packaged the show.

Kitt and Yorker are the creators of the award-winning play "Next to Normal," as well as the upcoming Idina Menzel show "If/Then."

Aguirre-Sacasa also has written the book for Duncan Sheik's "American Psycho" musical, which debuts in London later this year.

"Magic Mike" producers continue to develop a sequel to the sleeper hit, which grossed $167 million worldwide on a minuscule budget.

Deadline broke the news of Aguirre-Sacasa's hiring.
