Channing Tatum at ‘Magic Mike’ Premiere: Just How Autobiographical Was It? (Video)

On the "Magic Mike" red carpet Sunday night, the cast and crew revealed what it was like to work on such an unconventional film

Although "Magic Mike" is loosely based on star Channing Tatum’s real-life experiences in the world of male stripping, on the red carpet Sunday night at the Los Angeles Film Festival, he quickly insisted to TheWrap that loosely is the operative word.

The movie — directed by Steven Soderbergh and also starring Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer and  Joe Manganiello and opening Friday — has “very little” to do with him, save for a few minor details.

When asked why he didn’t make the film entirely autobiographical, Tatum told TheWrap, “I don’t think anyone would really want to see that.”

And he wasn't the only one with an autobiographical connection to the film. If the movie proves it can engage a wide audience, "CSI: Miami" alum, Adam Rodriguez, who co-stars as one of the strippers, admitted that he was "a DJ in a female strip club when I was 16."

Autobiographical or not, who is this movie for?

The romantic lead, Cody Horn, isn’t worried about men relating to the film. When asked who this movie is for, she said, “If you want to you can find something in this movie, everyone can find something in this movie, you just have to be open to it.”

Though perhaps assistant choreographer, Teresa Espinosa, put it best when she told TheWrap, “I don’t think any of us, except for Channing Tatum, really understood what we were getting into.”
