While touting new TBS docuseries “CeeLo Green: The Good Life” at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Friday, singer CeeLo Green admitted he is disappointed that his hit NBC singing competition “The Voice” has yet to produce a bonafide mega star.
“Believe it or not — I think the only thing that jades me just a bit about ‘The Voice’ is that we have yet to discover and, you know, unleash to the world the new, the next big thing, a true star on the big stage,” Green said.

“And I would like to be responsible for that, but at this point, I would be glad for anyone, for the show in general, to be responsible for that.”
Green made the remarks while also acknowledging how much “The Voice” has done to raise his profile in recent years. The singer rose to fame in the early 90s with rap group Goodie Mob, then found renewed success with smash hit “Crazy” with group Gnarls Barkley in 2006. But his solo career only truly took off after his starring turn as a judge and coach on NBC’s competition series in 2011.
The new TBS new series follows Green’s life in Atlanta and during production of Planet Hollywood show “CeeLo Green Is Loberace” in Las Vegas.

Green said the show is true to life — with some embellishments.
“It’s reality based. It’s like — semi-scripted,” Green said.
“I wanted to do something more innovative and cutting edge like a ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ sort of thing,” he added.
It’s projects like “The Good Life” that give Green itchy feet when it comes to his role on “The Voice.”
“I will say I’m human, and I have other ambitions that I want to see through that will require my undivided attention,” Green said in response to whether he will return for another season of the singing competition.
“But every time I think about [‘The Voice’] I am immediately reminded of how great it is to me, how wonderful it feels to be a part of the show, and what we’ve accomplished.”
