CBS announced Monday that it will broadcast the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on June 19.
The Sunday night telecast will mark the first time a network has aired the ceremony in back-to-back years. From 1974 until 2008, the big three tossed the Daytime Awards around like a hot potato (not counting 1984 and 1984, when the gala went untelevised).
In 2009, the CW took over for CBS, NBC and ABC when it snatched up the ceremony — a bold move considering that the netlet had no daytime schedule. That telecast was the Daytime Emmys' lowest ever, scoring just a 0.6 rating / 2.0 share in the 18 to 49 demographic, to go with 2.7 million viewers overall.
With Regis Philbin as host, last year's return to CBS saw the ratings roar back to a respectable-for-summer 5.8 million viewers. A host for the 2011 awards ceremony has yet to be named.
While a full list of nominations won't be announced until May 11, we're hoping that James Franco gets the academy shout-out he totally deserved last year for his turn as a psycho artist on "General Hospital." Who wouldn't vote for this?
