CBS digital subscription service CBS All Access is expanding to allow live streaming to more than half of U.S. households in a new agreement with affiliate partners, the company announced on Thursday.
The network reached a carriage agreement with 12 affiliate groups to allow live streaming access to their stations in 56 major markets like Atlanta, Phoenix and St. Louis. Together with the 14 CBS owned-and-operated stations that already allowed streaming of their signals on CBS All Access, the service now provides live streaming to 55 percent of U.S. households.
“This is another key step in the Company’s long-standing strategy to grow our business in a way that complements our existing ecosystem,” Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Corporation said in a statement.
“Adding CBS affiliates to the mix will give viewers the opportunity to watch more CBS programming whenever they want on whichever device they choose. We look forward to adding more affiliate partners to build CBS All Access nationwide,” Moonves added.
The paid subscription service also offers VOD, and live streams are counted in Nielsen ratings data.
Specific terms of the agreement were not released, but each affiliate partner will participate in a revenue share.
