Cannes: FilmDistrict to Release Angelina Jolie’s Bosnian Drama

Jolie wrote and directed film set during Bosnian War; December 23 set for U.S. release

"In the Land of Blood and Honey," a Bosnian-set drama to be written and directed by Angelina Jolie, has been picked up by FilmDistrict for a December U.S. release, producers Graham King and Tim Headlington announced on Sunday at Cannes.

Angelina Jolie“The film is specific to the Bosnian War, but it’s also universal,” said Jolie in a press release announcing the acquisition.  “I wanted to tell a story of how human relationships and behavior are deeply affected by living inside a war."

Jolie came to Cannes last week for a "Kung Fu Panda 2" event.

The film was simultaneously shot in English and in BHS, the language spoken by much of the cast. Zana Marjanovic, Goran Kostic and Rade Serbedzija star in the film alongside a cast made up largely of  local children.

FilmDistrict, a subsidiary of King's and Headington's GK Films, will release "The Land of Blood and Honey" on December 23.
