Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada") will write an untitled romantic dramedy for DreamWorks, the studio has confirmed to TheWrap.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce through their company Kurtzman Orci Paper Products, whose Manda Safavi will exec produce.
Based on an original idea by McKenna, the story will follow the on-again/off-again love affairs and friendships among a close circle of friends over a period of 20 years.
Orci and Kurtzman have wanted to work with McKenna since meeting the screenwriter last year. A few months ago, she came to the "Star Trek" exec producers with her idea, and the trio developed the pitch together before taking the project to DreamWorks, where Paper Products is based.
McKenna's next film is Paramount's "Morning Glory," which stars Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton and will open on Nov. 12. She previously wrote "27 Dresses" for Katherine Heigl, and has several other projects in development including Cameron Crowe's "We Bought a Zoo" at Fox, and a live-action adaptation of "Cinderella" at Disney.
Kurtzman and Orci are writing and producing DreamWorks' "Cowboys and Aliens," and they're also exec producing CBS' upcoming "Hawaii Five-O" reboot.
McKenna, Kurtzman and Orci are represented by CAA.
