"The Bodyguard" will return to theaters in a special one-night only presentation on March 28, Fathom Events said this week.
The 1992 film and its anthem "I Will Always Love You" have re-emerged in prominence in the wake of its star Whitney Houston's death last month.
The re-release is not being billed as a posthumous tribute to the pop diva. Rather, Fathom is presenting it as an opportunity to celebrate the romantic drama's twentieth anniversary.

For those people suffering from early-Nineties era amnesia, the film centers on a singer (Houston) who is menaced by a dangerous stalker. Slowly she falls in love with the man she hires to protect her, a former Secret Service agent (Kevin Costner).
The movie grossed a then extraordinary $410 million worldwide and its soundtrack album, featuring such Houston chest-pounding power ballads as "I'm Every Woman" and "Run to You," was the best-selling soundtrack of all time with nearly 12 million copies sold in the U.S.
Presented by NCM Fathom Events and Warner Bros., "The Bodyguard" event will be broadcast to more than 400 select movie theaters across.
Warner Bros. will release "The Bodyguard 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray" on March 27. Special features include Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” music video and “Memories of The Bodyguard,” a making-of documentary featuring director Mick Jackson, writer/producer Lawrence Kasdan, Houston and Costner and others.
