Bobbi Kristina Brown — the ill-fated daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown — died July 26 at age 22 after six months of fighting for her life, but the turmoil that punctuated her short life continues. The days since Brown’s funeral in Georgia on Saturday have been marked by family squabbling, scandalous behavior and other circumstances disturbing what should have been a peaceful end to a tragic life.
With Bobbi Kristina’s burial on Monday, TheWrap examines the most recent developments.
1) Bobbi Kristina Brown is laid to rest.
On Monday, Bobbi Kristina Brown was buried alongside her mother at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey. According to ET Online, the burial was attended by family and friends including her grandmother Cissy Houston and her aunt, Pat Houston.
During the ceremony, the funeral director asked attendees to pray for Cissy Houston, who in just over three years has lost her daughter and her granddaughter, under eerily similar circumstances.
2) Bobby Brown did not attend his daughter’s burial.
While Pat and Cissy Houston were among those on hand to send Bobbi Kristina to her final resting place, Bobby Brown was not among them. That could be because Brown’s wife, Alicia Etheredge, was rushed to the hospital on Saturday following Bobbi Kristina’s funeral service in Alpharetta, Georgia. Etheredge, who gave birth to her second child with Brown on July 9, reportedly suffered a seizure at her hotel.
3) A “death photo” makes its way to the media.
A particularly crass, but sadly not entirely unexpected, development occurred on Monday, when it was reported that a photo of Bobbi Kristina in her casket had been sold to a media outlet.
The photo, which is said to have been taken at Bobbi Kristina’s viewing on Friday, reportedly fetched more than $100,000.
The name of the outlet that purchased the photo was not disclosed. However, it added to the eerie similarities between the death of Bobbi Kristina and the 2012 death of her mother, who was pictured in her casket on the cover of the National Enquirer.
4) The family drama continues.
While the Brown and Houston families reportedly banded together in the final days of Bobbi Kristina’s life, that unity unraveled in a big way during her funeral service in Georgia on Saturday, thanks largely to Bobbi Kristina’s aunt Leolah Brown, who abruptly exited the service during Pat Houston’s eulogy.
“Whitney will haunt Pat Houston from the grave,” Leolah Brown told reporters outside the service. “She will haunt her.”
Brown, who had earlier accused Pat Houston of using Bobbi Kristina’s name for her personal gain, added,”Pat, it’s not over … It has just begun.”
5) Bobbi Kristina’s boyfriend begs to attend her funeral service.
Nick Gordon, whose relationship with Bobbi Kristina was mired in controversy, made an 11th-hour bid to attend her funeral service, writing an email to Bobby Brown and Pat Houston on Friday, the day before the ceremony.
“I loved Krissi with all my heart and I am destroyed that she is gone and I need to say goodbye,” Gordon wrote. “I’m begging you both to please put your differences aside and allow me this chance. Krissi loved me very much and she would want me there. Please consider this?”
Gordon, who was also barred from visiting Bobbi Kristina as she fought for her life, is currently facing a $10 million lawsuit filed by Brown’s court-appointed conservator, who alleges that he was physically abusive and stole Brown’s money. Leolah Brown has also claimed that Gordon is being investigated for attempted murder in relation to her near-drowning. Amid the legal troubles, Gordon has retained the services of Jose Baez, who successfully represented Casey Anthony in her 2011 murder case.
