Showtime has renewed its new drama “Billions” for a second season, TheWrap has learned.
Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis star on the financial drama from Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
“Billions” pits U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) against hedge fund king Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Lewis) in an intense feud between two powerful New York figures.
Their power struggle is further complicated by Rhoades’ wife (Maggie Siff), who works in Axelrod’s company.
The “Billions” series premiere was watched by 1.4 million total viewers. The new series had already accounted for 1.6 million views prior to its official pay-TV premiere because the drama debuted earlier across multiple platforms.
Malin Akerman, Toby Leonard Moore, David Costabile and Condola Rashad also star. The pilot was directed by Neil Burger (“The Illusionist,” “Divergent”), who also serves as an executive producer.
“Billions” airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on Showtime.
