Genre superstars Bill Skarsgard and Maika Monroe are teaming for “Villains,” a home invasion thriller that rated on the 2016 Black List — an annual ranking of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays.
From writer-directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, “Villains” will see Skarsgard and Monroe as amateur crooks who break into an idyllic suburban home only to discover dark secrets and owners who would do anything to keep them contained.
The film will seek North American distribution with reps Endeavor Content.
The Realm, a division of British Columbia-based BRON Studios (Skarsgard’s upcoming “Assassination Nation”), will produce the project with Star Thrower Entertainment (“The Post).
Tim and Trevor White and Allan Mandelbaum will produce for Star Thrower. Garrick Dion will produce, with Aaron L. Gilbert as executive producer, for The Realm and BRON. Creative Wealth Media’s Jason Cloth will executive produce. Rick Rickertsen and Mary Solomon are co-producing.
Skarsgard rocketed to fame with his take on Pennywise the Clown in New Line’s low-budget blockbuster reboot of “It.” Monroe has been a perpetual breakout since her heatseeking horror “It Follows” was released in 2014.
Skarsgard is represented by WME and Magnolia Entertainment. Monroe is represented by WME and Management 360. Berk and Olsen are represented by UTA, Kaplan/Perrone and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
