Ratings: NBC’s Democratic Convention Coverage Beats ‘Big Brother’-Boosted CBS’

But Les Moonves-led network tops Thursday primetime outright

CBS topped Thursday primetime, but even with a strong “Big Brother” lead-in, the network couldn’t overcome NBC’s Democratic National Convention (DNC) coverage at 10 o’clock.

NBC was runner-up for the overall evening in both the key 18-49 demographic and among total viewers.

CBS was first in ratings with a 1.3 rating/5 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 5 million, according to preliminary numbers. Following reruns, “Big Brother” at 8 p.m. ET earned a 1.8/7 and 5.8 million viewers. At 10, DNC coverage had a 0.8/3 and 3.3 million viewers.

NBC was second in ratings with a 0.8/3 and in viewers with 3.2 million. After a repeat, “Hollywood Game Night” at 9 p.m. ET got a 0.7/3 and 2.8 million viewers. Convention coverage at 10 received a 0.9/3 and 3.7 million viewers.

ABC and Univision tied for third in ratings, both with a 0.7/3. ABC was third in total viewers with 3 million, Univision was fifth with 1.72 million.

For ABC, “BattleBots” at 8 p.m. ET had a 0.8/3 and 3.4 million viewers. At 9, “Greatest Hits” got a 0.6/2 and 2.4 million viewers. Convention coverage at 10 received a 0.7/3 and 3.2 million viewers.

Telemundo was fifth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and sixth in viewers with 1.68 million.

Fox was sixth in ratings with a 0.5/2 and fifth in viewers with 1.9 million. “Home Free” at 8 p.m. ET had a 0.6/2 and 2 million viewers. A second hour at 9 got a 0.5/2 and 1.9 million viewers.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.2/1 and in viewers with 906,000. Following a rerun, “Beauty & the Beast” received a 0.2/1 and 930,000 viewers.
