Sen. Bernie Sanders not only inspired hope in a generation of left-leaning Americans, he also inspired a renowned French fashion house to create a menswear collection.
Balenciaga introduced their new line of Bernie-themed pieces in its Fall/Winter 2017 collection during Paris Fashion Week. Among the items seen on the runway were Sanders’ traditional khaki pants, as well as a bomber jacket, an oversized scarf and warm/comfy sweaters bearing his campaign logo, but with the name “Balenciaga” instead of “Bernie.”
CNN’s Jake Tapper had an opportunity on Sunday’s “State of the Union” to ask the popular former presidential candidate about his new status as style muse.
“Bizarre sighting at Paris fashion week from Balenciaga,” Tapper said. “Take a look. These are a number of people, models on a runway in Bernie clothes. Did you ever think that you would become a fashion icon?”
Sanders laughed and said, “No, not quite Jake. I think that of my many attributes, being a great dresser or fashion maven is not one of them.”
