Eight of L.A.’s top dance promoters united for a one-off holiday dance party slugged “LA Gives Back” on Dec. 21 at an appropriately named venue: “Union.”
They raised $50,000 for local homeless charities including the Monday Night Mission, My Friend’s Place, and Casa Libre.

The steaming crowd packed six rooms could not melt the indoor snow.
Diplo’s usual club environs are the massive world-class XS and Encore Beach Clubs in Las Vegas. Pre-Christmas, he united with friends at the Franki Chan-led fundraiser. “For [event producer] IHEARTCOMIX, this is our holiday party,” Chan said. “We wanted to celebrate our year and the community we belong to.”
At the far right, Valentino “Deep Down Low” Khan joins Diplo on the decks.
The charitable spirit of the dance community spilled over to the guests as co-hosts Free Grilled Cheese delivered melted, cheesy nutrition to the front row rope rats.
On the decks: Promite (center) and Kittens (right). A notoriously territorial, self-important and cash-grabbing industry, the magnanimous dance community leaders teaming up included Brownies + Lemonade, Ham on Everything, Emo Nite L.A., Space Yacht, Late Night Laggers, Gree Grilled Cheese and Restless Nites.
“Easily the best party of 2016,” Kittens (taking a horizontal curtain call) posted after the show.
$50,000 came from this crowd on a sweaty weeknight deep on Pico Blvd in the Mid-City area of L.A.
“Good job LA,” Diplo tweeted the morning after.
“It’s our responsibility as a community to address [the rising homeless] problem and fix it,” Chan said in a statement. “As we grow, we must bring everyone up with us. Hopefully this event shows our city and the world that we can stand as one to create positive change.”
