Benedict Cumberbatch is just full of surprises. Like Sherlock Holmes, you just never know what revelation he’s going to pull out of his sleeves next. For MTV, he shared his talent for celebrity impressions, slamming through 11 of them in roughly a minute.
Inspired by his upcoming film “The Imitation Game,” Cumberbatch worked his way through a list of celebrities provided by “MTV After Hours’” Josh Horowitz.
The actor worked his way through John Malkovich, Alan Rickman, Sean Connery, Jack Nicholson, Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Michael Caine, Christopher Walken, Bane, Matthew McConaughey and even Taylor Swift.
Perhaps not surprisingly, every impression centered around that person wanting to see Benedict Cumberbatch starring in “The Imitation Game.” He may have been impersonating a myriad of stars for fun, but he never lost his focus on the film promotion aspect of his appearance.
Cumberbatch doesn’t play an impressionist in “The Imitation Game.” The Weinstein Company film tells the story of British mathematician Alan Turing, with the “Sherlock” star in the lead role. The film, adapted by Graham Moore and directed by Morten Tyldum, co-stars Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, Charles Dance, Allen Leech, Mathew Beard and Rory Kinnear. It will be released to theaters on Friday, Nov. 28.
