Ben Affleck is set to star in the next film from director Robert Rodriguez, a mind-bending action thriller called “Hypnotic,” producers Studio 8 and Solstice Studios announced Wednesday.
Rodriguez and Max Borenstein wrote the film that will star Affleck as a detective who becomes entangled in a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program while investigating a string of impossible high-end heists.
Rodriguez, Studio 8 CEO Jeff Robinov and his colleagues Guy Danella and John Graham will produce the film with Solstice. Solstice will handle U.S. distribution and international sales beginning at the American Film Market this week. “Hypnotic” is the first film green lit between Studio 8 and Solstice Studios.
“Working with Ben on his award-winning projects, including ‘Argo’ and ‘The Town,’ I have seen how his versatility and creativity has made him one of the most talented filmmakers both in front of and behind the camera,” Robinov said in a statement. “It’s very meaningful to be collaborating with Ben again on this uniquely riveting suspense thriller, and I know he and Robert will make a terrific film together.”
Affleck last starred in “Triple Frontier” alongside Oscar Isaac for Netflix. He’s attached to Ridley Scott’s “The Last Duel” with Matt Damon based on a script he and Damon co-wrote. He’ll also be seen in Dee Rees’ “The Last Thing He Wanted” and “The Way Back” from director Gavin O’Conner. He’s currently filming “Deep Water” from director Adrian Lyne.
Affleck is represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME).
