‘Belgravia,’ From the ‘Downton Abbey’ Producers, Looks and Sounds EXACTLY Like ‘Downton Abbey’ – Watch the Trailer (Video)

We’d say upcoming Epix drama is a ripoff, but it’s a Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame adaptation of Fellowes’ novel

If you liked “Downton Abbey,” then has Epix got the show for you! Because limited series “Belgravia” looks and sounds EXACTLY like “Downton” — the trailer even reveals an almost identical piano theme.

Here’s the thing though: “Belgravia” is a Julian Fellowes adaptation of a Julian Fellowes novel of the same name, and Fellowes, Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, and Liz Trubridge are the executive producers. In other words, it can’t be a “Downton” ripoff if it’s by the folks behind “Downton.”

(And yes, we checked with Epix: This lookalike — and soundalike — show has nothing to do with “Downton” other than the producing team. It’s not a spinoff or companion series.)

“Belgravia” is a story of secrets and scandals amongst the upper echelon of London society in the 19th century. When the Trenchards accept an invitation to the now legendary ball hosted by the Duchess of Richmond on the fateful eve of the Battle of Waterloo, it sets in motion a series of events that will have consequences for decades to come as secrets unravel behind the porticoed doors of London’s grandest neighborhoods.

The ensemble cast includes Tom Wilkinson, Tamsin Greig, Philip Glenister, Harriet Walter, Alice Eve, Tara Fitzgerald, Ella Purnell, Richard Goulding, James Fleet, Adam James, Paul Ritter and Saskia Reeves.

John Alexander will direct all episodes with Colin Wratten producing.

We weren’t exaggerating about the theme song, were we?

“Belgravia” will premiere on Epix in 2020.
