"The Flint Heart," the upcoming book from "Bridge to Terabithia" author Katherine Paterson, has been acquired by Bedrock Studios in partnership with Arcady Bay Entertainment.
Arcady Bay principal David Paterson will adapt the novel by his two-time Newbery Award-winning mother for a live-action, effects-driven film.
The companies and the Patersons previously collaborated on the 2007 live-action fantasy "Bridge to Terabithia."
Paterson wrote "Flint Heart" with her husband, John Paterson Sr. It’s due out from Candlewick Press early next year.
The book’s story stretches from the Stone Age to present-day England; it revolves around a mysterious amulet that brings both power and despair to all who touch it.
“Reuniting with Katherine and Arcady Bay Entertainment is something we’ve been looking forward to for quite some time," Bedrock Studios’ Cary Granat said in a statement. “Katherine gives us such a rich tapestry to work with, and storylines to bring to life on the screen. In turn, David has a remarkable gift to translate this marvelous world to the screen, and we’re fortunate to have him on board for the adaptation.”
The recently launched Bedrock Studios was created from the union of Reel FX and Granat Entertainment, bringing together former Walden Media CEO Granat and Ed Jones, former CEO of ILM.
