“Batwoman” fans will have to wait a few more months to watch the Ruby Rose-led series on The CW, but the first teaser is here.
The clip, which dropped online just minutes after the network announced it ordered a “Batwoman” series, doesn’t reveal much. But at least it’s suitably moody: Batwoman stands on a Gotham City rooftop under a full moon, brooding like a true member of the Batman Family, then we see a quick fade into the show’s logo. And that’s it! (You can watch above.)
Based on the characters from DC Comics, “Batwoman” is written by Caroline Dries, who executive produces alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, David Nutter, and director Marcos Siega.
The show will feature Rose’s Kate Kane/Batwoman, first introduced during the Arrowverse crossover event “Elseworlds.” Camrus Johnson, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy and Nicole Kang have also been cast.
The introduction of Bat woman and Gotham City was the first mention of any kind that Batman and his cohorts exist in the Arrowverse. The new show will feature Batwoman protecting Gotham about three years after the original Caped Crusader disappeared.
“Batman is missing. What does that do when your heroes are gone and who steps into that void?” Schechter said in February. “What’s great about the restriction of just focusing on Batwoman is that we have to build a world for our character. It’s a character that people don’t really know.”
