Former President Barack Obama shared a photo of him dining with Anthony Bourdain at a Vietnamese restaurant in Hanoi, following the celebrity chef and CNN host’s suicide Friday morning.
“‘Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious noodles, cold Hanoi beer.’ This is how I’ll remember Tony. He taught us about food — but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together. To make us a little less afraid of the unknown. We’ll miss him,” Obama tweeted.

The picture was from the Season 8 premiere of Bourdain’s CNN show, “Parts Unknown,” in September 2016.
In the episode, Bourdain traveled to the Vietnamese capital and the former president joined him at a neighborhood restaurant to drink beers and “learn the art of the noodle slurp.” Obama was in Hanoi to lift a decades-old arms embargo on the country.
Bourdain’s death at age 61 has prompted an outpouring of remembrances from across the culinary and entertainment world, with numerous friends, fans and admirers hitting Twitter.
