Current industry estimates have “Avengers: Infinity War” scoring an astronomical $250 million in its opening weekend, a new record for the biggest box office opening of all time. The previous record of $247.9 million was made by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” three years ago.

In addition, Disney announced on Sunday morning that the Marvel crossover film has made $630 million, the biggest global opening ever even without China, which gets the film on May 11.

Domestically, the movie made $83 million on Saturday, the most ever for an opening Saturday. Disney is expecting the film to make $61 million on Sunday, but that total could be pushed even higher when Monday actuals are reported.

Overseas, the film scored $350 million, representing the second-highest overseas launch ever. Only “The Fate of the Furious,” which had a day-and-date global release with China included, scored more with $443 million internationally, though that film had the previous global launch record with a “mere” $541.9 million.

IMAX, on whose cameras “Avengers” was entirely filmed, reports a $41 million opening from 715 screens, the biggest Marvel IMAX opening of all time and the third biggest for any film on the format behind “Force Awakens” and “Jurassic World.” That total includes a Marvel domestic record of $22.5 million.

And while per screen average is a metric usually used for films in limited release, “Avengers” has posted the second-highest PSA of the year so far with an estimated $55,878 per screen. Only the $60,000 PSA earned by Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs” in its first weekend in limited release beats that amount.

Marvel Studios has pushed Disney’s 2018 domestic total to over $1 billion in just 117 days, beating the studio’s own record set in 2016 by 11 days. The lion’s share belongs to “Black Panther,” which returned to the top five this weekend with $4.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $688 million.

“Avengers: Infinity War” marks the 10th anniversary of Marvel Studios and its cinematic universe, which has come to completely dominate the world’s box office in the past decade. With this launch, the lifetime gross for the 19 MCU films totals over $15.5 billion worldwide.

All in all, “Avengers” is estimated to have made as much as 85 percent of all domestic revenue this weekend. In the face of that, Paramount’s “A Quiet Place” managed to hold on for $10.6 million in its fourth weekend, a 49 percent drop from the previous weekend after keeping its drop to under 40 percent in past frames.

With a domestic total of $148 million, the horror film is expected to pass “Star Trek: Beyond” and its domestic total of $158.8 million, making it the biggest domestic release for Paramount since “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” in July 2015.

STX’s “I Feel Pretty” took a 50 percent drop, making $8.1 million for a 10-day total of $29.6 million. The film that took the biggest fall was Warner Bros. and Dwayne Johnson’s “Rampage,” dropping 65 percent to $7.1 million in its third weekend for a $77.9 million total.
