‘Avatar’ Becomes First $100M Movie for Imax

Passes “Polar Express'” $71 million after one month of release in large-screen format

Imax Corp. has scored its first $100 million global hit with "Avatar," which has grossed more than $101.3 million since its launch a month ago.

James Cameron’s sci-fi adventure has amassed more than $33.3 million overseas and $68 million in North America on Imax screens, easily outstripping "The Polar Express’" $71 million take to become the biggest worldwide hit yet in the large-screen format.
