Ava DuVernay’s second OWN series, “Cherish the Day,” has cast “The Mindy Project” alum Xosha Roquemore and Alano Miller from “Underground” as its leads.
Each season of the drama will chronicle the stirring romance of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day. “The season-long narrative will unfold to reveal significant moments in a relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to the ever,” OWN said of the season.
Roquemore plays Gently James and Miller plays Evan Fisher. The couple meets and falls in love in Los Angeles, with the full season spanning five years in eight episodes.
DuVernay created and is executive producing the anthology, which received a straight-to-series order, from Warner Horizon Scripted Television as part of her recently announced overall deal with the studio.
She executive produces along with Paul Garnes (“Queen Sugar”), Tanya Hamilton (“Queen Sugar,” “Night Catches Us”), and Oprah Winfrey. Filmmaker Tanya Hamilton (“Queen Sugar,” “Night Catches Us”) will direct the series premiere, which was written by DuVernay.
“Cherish the Day” is produced for OWN by Array Filmworks and Harpo Films in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television.
The show is DuVernay’s second at OWN, which airs also her drama “Queen Sugar.”
