The Lazarus Pit has been teased on “Arrow” for a while, and it will finally come into play in Wednesday’s all new episode of The CW’s superhero drama.
Last we left off, Thea (Willa Holland) had been fatally wounded by Ra’s al Ghul (Matt Nable) in his latest attempt to coerce her brother Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), a.k.a. Arrow, into leading the League of Assassins.
With Thea on the verge of death, Oliver has no choice but to take her to the Assassins’ lair in Nanda Parbat, location of the magical Lazarus Pit and its power to resurrect the dead. In exchange, Oliver will finally submit to Ra’s’ request.
“Arrow” executive producer Marc Guggenheim teased that the episode will have repercussions that reverberate way beyond the immediate life-for-life exchange.
“You can expect that there will be more consequences,” he told reporters after a screening of the episode. “We established clearly that the Lazarus Pit returns you, but not always in the condition you were left. So there’s a lot of stories still to be told.”
The episode (teased in the trailer), will also feature a long-awaited hookup between Oliver and sidekick/Girl Friday Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Meanwhile, Diggle (David Ramsey) butts heads with Maseo (Karl Yune), Oliver’s old ally and now member of the League.
One person who won’t make an appearance is Colton Haynes’ Roy Harper, who exited the show as a series regular in last week’s episode.
But Guggenheim revealed details of Haynes’ return, which will take place in episode 22, “This Is Your Sword.”
“The thing that we felt we owed the audience more than anything was some closure with Thea,” Guggenheim revealed. “We owe the audience some closure for this three-season-long love story between these two characters.”
“Arrow” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
