Arnold Schwarzenegger is back, and he’s taking on himself, in the first trailer for “Terminator: Genisys.”
A familiar story unfolds in the first trailer, which sees Jason Clarke as John Connor, leading a failing war against robots in a dystopian future. Knowing his mother is in danger in the past, he sends one of his soldiers, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney), back in time to save her.
It’s a plotline cribbed directly from previous “Terminator” films, and indeed, much of the first trailer seems to pay homage to its predecessors, but “Genisys” will clearly go in its own direction as well. For one thing, when Reese lands in the past, it’s not quite the one he was anticipating.
Alan Taylor directed the reboot which also stars “Game of Thrones’” Emilia Clarke as a young Sarah Connor.
“Terminator: Genisys” will be released on July 1, 2015.
