Sounds like Ariana Grande has licked her potential legal problems.
The “Love Me Harder” singer, who last week drew widespread wrath after a video of her apparently licking doughnuts and spewing anti-American rhetoric, will not face charges over the July 4 incident, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.
According to a release from the department, the owner of Wolfee Donuts, the Lake Elsinore, California, establishment where the incident took place, declined to press charge against Grande.
As reported last week, Grande and a companion entered Wolfee at approximately 11:30 p.m. and licked donuts that were left on the counter. In a video capturing the incident, Grande is heard to say “I hate Americans” and “I hate America.”
Grande subsequently apologized for the comment, saying she is “EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country.”
The apology came after Grande was replaced at the MLB All-Star concert by Demi Lovato, a change that Grande attributed to recent “emergency oral surgery.”
In an interview with TheWrap, Wolfee Donuts owner said that, while business had “tripled” since the video of Grande’s antics was made public, he was still “furious” and “pissed off” at both Grande’s doughnut-licking and anti-American comments.
“She forgot that America buys your tickets, that’s why you’re famous,” Wolfee owner Marin, an immigrant from Mexico who has obtained American citizenship, said.
As a result of the doughnut incident and other minor infractions, Wolfee had its health grade knocked down from an A to a B last week by the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health.
Marin told TheWrap that the problems were already being fixed last week, and that he expects the doughnut shop’s A grade to be restored by the July 15 deadline.
