"Argo," "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Les Miserables" may have been disappointed by the Directors Branch of the Academy on Thursday, but all three films received nominations for the top film editing award at the ACE Eddie Awards nominations were announced on Friday.
In the rare case of guild nominations announced after the Oscar nominations, the American Cinema Editors also honored the dramas "Lincoln," "Life of Pi" and "Skyfall" and the comedies or musicals "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," "Moonrise Kingdom," "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Ted."
The ACE Eddie Awards category for Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic) almost exactly matched the Ocars category for Best Film Editing, with "Argo," "Life of Pi," "Lincoln" and "Zero Dark Thirty" all nominated. The only difference is that Oscar voters also nominated "Silver Linings Playbook," while ACE Eddie voters put that film in the Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy or Musical) category and went with "Skyfall" in the drama group.
"Brave," "Frankenweenie," "Rise of the Guardians" and "Wreck-It Ralph" were nominated for Best Animated Feature Film, while documentary-editing nominees were "Samsara," "Searching for Sugar Man" and "West of Memphis."

In the television categories, "Girls," "Modern Family" and "Nurse Jackie" were singled out among half-hour shows, while the one-hour series was split into two categories, one for commercial television and one for non-commercial television.
In the commercial television category, two episodes of "Breaking Bad" were nominated alongside "Mad Men," "Nashville" and "Smash."
The non-commercial television category consists of two episodes of "Homeland" and the pilot of "The Newsroom."
"Game Change," "Hatfields & McCoys" and "Hemingway & Gellhorn," the last of those edited by the legendary Walter Murch, were nominated in the miniseries or TV movie category.
No film has won won Best Picture at the Academy Awards without being nominated for an ACE Eddie Award since "Ordinary People" in 1981 — and given the films nominated this year, that statistic seems unlikely to change, with all the top contenders present and accounted for.
The ACE Eddie Awards will take place on Feb. 16 at the Beverly Hills Hotel, in a ceremony hosted by David Cross from "Arrested Development."
