Anthony Geary bid adieu to “General Hospital” on Tuesday after more than three decades of portraying Luke Spencer, taping his final episodes of the ABC soap.
As might be expected, the farewell was an emotional one, with Geary’s co-stars pouring out their hearts on social media in tribute to their departing co-star.
Ryan Carnes, who plays Lucas Jones on the series, posted a picture with Geary, calling him a “living legend.”
“On set send-off today at #GH @GeneralHospital with the living #legend himself #AnthonyGeary,” Carnes wrote.
Another colleague, Maurice Benard, referred to Geary as “not just a great actor but a great guy,” adding, “I’m proud to call him my friend.”
Added Michelle Stafford, “#TonyGeary = #MAGIC that is all…”
Geary’s departure from “General Hospital” was announced in May. At the time, executive producer Frank Valentini said that Geary “felt this was the right time to bid adieu” to the character and the show.
“Tony recently made his intentions clear that he would vacate his role of Luke Spencer this year, and it was a decision he did not come to lightly. After 37 years on the air, Tony felt this was the right time to bid adieu to Luke Spencer, Port Charles and ‘General Hospital,’” Valentini said.
