Emily Nelson has served her time in prison — at least, we’re pretty sure — and now she’s out. And in the first teaser for “Another Simple Favor,” she has an important surprise proposal for Stephanie Smothers.
In the first look at the sequel, released Wednesday morning, we catch back up with Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) at a book event. Apparently, she turned her misadventures with Emily (Blake Lively) into a bestselling book called “The Faceless Blonde.”
What Stephanie doesn’t expect is for Emily to come strutting up once again in one of her classic suits during the book signing and ask her to be maid of honor in Emily’s next wedding. Naturally, Stephanie’s first question is: “Did you break out of prison?”
The wedding is happening in Capri, Italy, and, for reasons unknown, Stephanie does agree to go. Maybe it’s to get a sequel, should Emily try to murder her in a revenge plot. After all, the trailer teases that “revenge is a dish best served chilled, with a twist.”
And, indeed, we do see a body. Whose body it is remains a mystery for now. You can watch the full first teaser for “A Simple Favor 2” in the video, above.
Paul Feig returns to the direct from a script by Jessica Sharzer, who also adapted the original film, and Laeta Kalogridis. Alongside Kendrick and Lively, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin and Henry Golding return to star, with newcomers Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, Elena Sofia Ricci and Allison Janney joining the cast.
“Another Simple Favor” will make its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival on March 7 before streaming globally on Prime Video on May 1.
