The final roasters have been set for “The Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe,” and all your favorites made the cut, including Ann Coulter.
All right, so maybe Coulter doesn’t qualify as a “favorite” for most of Comedy Central’s audience, but she is there on that list, as is singer Jewel, Ralph Macchio, and Nikki Glaser.
While at first glance Coulter’s booking seems like the kind of plot twist happened upon by monkeys at typewriters, it does make some kind of sense.
Coulter is on a publicity tour to promote her just-released book “In Trump We Trust,” and now, with Donald Trump’s reported pivot on immigration, every other roaster (and Lowe) has fresh material to bring to Saturday’s taping.
The odds of at least one roaster simply holding up a copy of Coulter’s new book and sitting back down are about 2:1, and depending on what the GOP presidential nominee does in the next 48 hours before the roast is taped, there could be even more helpings of irony to go around.
Altogether, the lineup for the roast consists of:
- David Spade (Roast Master)
- Jeff Ross
- Ann Coulter
- Jewel
- Peyton Manning
- Ralph Macchio
- Rob Riggle
- Pete Davidson
- Jimmy Carr
That’s quite an eclectic bunch, though the inclusion of aces like Davidson is encouraging. (Peyton Manning can pull off mean-funny well, too, as we learned in his classic United Way “SNL” sketch.)
“The Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe” will air Monday, Sept. 5 at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.
