Shortly after Angelina Jolie’s divorce filing from Brad Pitt became public knowledge, an earthquake was reported in Los Angeles in a stroke of incredible irony.
The news broke that Jolie filed to separate from her husband of two years and partner of 12 around 7:30 a.m. PT. At 7:43 a.m., the U.S. Geological Survey reported a 3.0 magnitude earthquake just north of Gardena.
Given the fact that Jolie and Pitt have long been considered one of Hollywood’s most powerful couples, could the end of their marriage be a sign that the Armageddon is nigh? Probably not, but it’s a small bit of humor to be found in a sad situation.
“Brangelina,” as they were dubbed by the media, met on the set of the film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” in which they played rival assassins who also happen to be married to each other.
There was widespread speculation at the time that their relationship began onset and that Pitt divorced Jennifer Aniston so he could be with Jolie.
They were officially married in a private ceremony at a French chateau in August 2014. In 2015, they co-starred in the drama “By the Sea,” which followed a married couple trying to repair their marriage during a stay at a hotel in 1970’s France.
