It’s no secret anthology series “American Horror Story” pushes boundaries with its sexually-charged scenes and brutal killings, especially last season in “Freak Show.” But series star Angela Bassett says Season 5, “American Horror Story: Hotel,” will be even more depraved.
“There’s mystery, there’s intrigue, there’s innocence, there’s depravity, there’s things that go on in hotels behind closed doors,” Bassett told TheWrap in a recent sit-down about the FX series and her role as Six in “
Bassett will be kicking butt when the Ubisoft video game hits stores on December 1, but for now she’s focused on the getting through the jaw-dropping scripts for “AHS: Hotel.”
“I can’t read the scripts at night. Come dusk, I’m done,” the actress admitted, because the material is so twisted that she refuses to read it after the sun goes down.
This will be Bassett’s third season on the show, her first being “Coven,” in which she played Louisiana voodoo queen Marie Laveau. In season 4, she starred as three-breasted performer Desiree Dupree.
“Of course three boobs, you capture half the attention in the room with that,” Bassett joked.
“American Horror Story” has been on the air since 2011, with the first season starring Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott. Since then, the show’s creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have added even more A-list talent including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Frances Conroy and Bassett, who has received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for her work in the series.
“Freak Show” welcomed newcomers
Lange, who took home two Emmys for her multiple roles in the series, will not be returning. But Lady Gaga is joining the debauchery in season 5. She’s set to play bloodsucking Countess Elizabeth, a past lover of Bassett’s character Ramona Royale. Bassett was game to lift the lid on their sultry scenes together.
“The first day, the first scene, we were clinched in an embrace,” she said. “I’m having a great time kissing on her.”
“American Horror Story: Hotel” premieres Wednesday, October 7 at 10 p.m. on FX. Stay tuned to TheWrap for more with
