“Saturday Night Live” funnyman Andy Samberg is about to have a shark encounter — and not with the land shark of yore that used to wreak terror on his show.

Samberg has signed on to become the first ever Chief Shark Officer for Discovery Channel’s 24th annual Shark Week, Discovery said on Wednesday. In this newly created position, Samberg will serve as host for the weeklong celebration of the ocean’s most fearsome predators. Samberg’s duties include hosting a Shark Week special, filming on-air wraps for Shark Week and, while nothing is definite, Discovery said that Samberg “may even take the plunge and dive with the apex predators.”
Samberg said of his new responsibilities, “I’m overjoyed about being appointed CSO. Everyone loves Shark Week. It’s the Bill Cosby of week-long television blocks dedicated to sea animals."
It’s not yet certain if Shark Week, like Cosby, will weigh in on the pressing topic of Donald Trump’s potential presidential campaign.
Shark Week will kick off in late summer.
