Actor Stoney Westmoreland, who plays the title character’s grandfather on Disney Channel’s “Andi Mack,” was arrested Friday in Salt Lake City and is accused of trying to arrange a sexual liaison with a minor.

Westmoreland, 48, was charged with trying to entice, solicit, seduce or lure a minor by internet or text, as well as “dealing in materials harmful” to a minor, according to the Salt Lake County sheriff’s department.

“Stoney Westmoreland, an actor working on the series ‘Andi Mack,’ was arrested in Salt Lake City today. Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement provided to TheWrap.

Salt Lake City NBC affiliate KSL reported Friday that Westmoreland attempted to arrange sex online with a person he believed to be 13 years old. The outlet reports that an affidavit filed in the third district court accuses the actor of communicating with the person he believed to be underage “on an internet app used for dating and meeting people for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.”

According to the affidavit, as reported by KSL, Westmoreland requested sexual acts and nude photos from the person, and sent them pornographic materials.

Westmoreland has appeared in television shows such as “Better Call Saul,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Scandal,” and films such as “Godzilla” (1998).

Representatives for Westmoreland did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap.
